After announcing the release date of her new album, Dopamine, Normani talked about Beyonce's impact and influence over her music and her life.

Normani 'Dopamine' Release Date

After years of anticipation and countless jokes from her fans and followers, Normani has finally announced the release date of her debut album, Dopamine.

The album release came after she released "Motivation" in 2019, the supposed lead single for Dopmanine. Although she released the album cover art and initially teased that she's releasing the album this year, Normani did not announce when the album will come out in February 2024.

In a new announcement on her Instagram bio, Normani revealed that she's releasing Dopamine on June 14, 2024.

Speaking to ELLE, Normani talked about the pressure of releasing her debut album as a solo artist.

"I know what it's like to put out music and records that I don't wholeheartedly believe in. When we were in [Fifth Harmony], we didn't have the opportunity to have a real opinion until the last project we did. I promised myself, "If God gives me another opportunity to do things in my own way, I'm not going to take that for granted,'" she said.

Normani also discussed the criticisms she received on social media, saying that she wanted to delay the release of her album.

"Nobody wants this project to come out more than me. I think that at the end of the day, if I stand behind this wholeheartedly, it doesn't matter what the world thinks," she confirmed.

Normani Raves About Beyoncé

Elsewhere in the interview, Normani was asked about her opinions on the state of music right now.

While she knows well that women in power exist, she wants more recognition for them. She added that she wanted to see more women as CEOs, producers, or even in chairmanship positions.

Specifically, Normani mentioned Beyoncé and the impact she wields on Black women in music.

"Having Beyoncé, a Black woman in music, taking over the country space is revolutionary. Those are the types of things that I set out to do. Now you have country artists who look like us coming out and just being like, "We've always been here." I think that it's educational not only for music lovers, but also in the Black community. We've pioneered a lot that we don't get recognition for. I think that it's just really cool being able to witness Beyoncé be fearless and do something that is much bigger than herself."

Beyoncé released Cowboy Carter in March 2024, and it became the first album by a Black female artist to top the Billboard 200 chart. Meanwhile, Normani released the official lead single for Dopamine, "1:59," a collaboration with rapper Gunna.
