Chappell Roan says she takes breaks from social media whenever it starts to feel overwhelming, explaining that stepping away helps protect her mental space and creativity.

The "Good Luck, Babe!" singer shared her thoughts during an episode of P&G and iHeartRadio's Elton John Impact Awards podcast released on June 1, where she spoke openly about the pressures of online attention.

Roan, 28, said she currently does not keep social media on her phone and often deletes apps when the negativity becomes too much to handle.

"It's very... disheartening sometimes to really go into the comment section," she said. According to THR, she added that removing herself from platforms helps her stay focused on her work and values. "I just delete it when it becomes too much and keep it moving."

Roan explained that even when online criticism feels heavy, she reminds herself that it does not affect the work she cares about, including her music and activism. She said her focus remains on creating and supporting causes she believes in, regardless of online opinions.

Still, she acknowledged that managing social media is complicated for artists today. Many musicians depend on platforms to grow their careers, but Roan said that constant exposure to comments and numbers can feel draining. For her, stepping away is a way to avoid getting stuck in what she described as an emotional "hurricane."

"It's such a difficult world to navigate," she said, noting that while she can choose to log off, not every artist has that option due to industry pressure.

Roan also reflected on how protecting her creativity has become a personal priority. She said she tries to be gentle with her artistic process, even if she struggles to show herself the same grace in other areas of life. For her, making music is something she treats as deeply personal and important.

The singer has previously spoken about similar struggles. In earlier interviews, she said she deleted Instagram and TikTok because reading comments affected her mood and focus while writing music, People reported.

She also shared that her debut album took years to complete and that she does not rush her creative process.

Roan's most recent release was 2025's "The Subway," following her breakout 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. She has said she prefers to take her time between projects rather than force new music.

During the Elton John Impact Awards conversation, Roan also highlighted the importance of community and staying grounded in real-life connections rather than online spaces. She said that staying connected to people offline helps her maintain balance in an industry that often revolves around digital attention.
