Diehard fans of Days of Our Lives have known that Alison Sweeney shot her final scenes as Sami Brady several months ago and they have patiently waited for it to play out onscreen. Now that there are only a few days left for Sweeney to appear onscreen and she has spent months settling in to her new normal life, the actress has taken some time to reflect on everything.

In an interview with TV Guide Sweeney discusses shooting those final scenes and what it's like watching them come to life onscreen now.

"We shot those scenes more than four months ago and it still hurts. But everybody needed closure — including the fans. Counting down the final months and weeks and days was so hard. I was like, 'This is Sami's last disagreement with her mother!' 'This is her last cat fight with Nicole!' 'This is the last time she'll say "I do!"' No matter where I go in my acting career, I'm sure I will never play a schemer who's had 15 weddings and kept all her dresses."

Sweeney started on the show when she was just 16 years old and 22 years later she is still there, deep in the muck of life in that little town called Salem. When she decided that it was time to move on in order to grow as an actress and also to spend more time with her husband and small children, the powers-that-be opted not to kill Sami off. Not that anyone is ever permanently dead in soaps anyway, but the path for her to return if she wants to is an easy one.

"Sami desperately needs something to look forward to so she's taking the kids off on a new adventure but the writers made sure it's not anything permanent and that Sami can come back to Salem any time she wants. Are you kidding? Days celebrates its 50th anniversary next year. No way am I missing that!" says Sweeney. It seems pretty clear already that while she needed a change, leaving Days was not intended to be a permanent thing.

So Sweeney is already teasing about coming back next year but do you think that when she does pop up onscreen again it'll be for an extended run? Or will Sweeney become one of the beloved cast members that only returns for holidays or special occasions? What are you hoping for? Can you imagine Days of Our Lives without Sami Brady in the mix?
