Earlier this month, Nas announced that a new album is in the works. He first hinted at it on his remix of Schoolboy Q's "Studio," rapping, "Finished up my new album, single 'bout to be dropping / Last album on Def Jam and I got so many options." He confirmed the news with Power 105.1's Angie Martinez saying the single could drop any day, and now that day has come with the new single "The Season."

He previewed the track last night (Oct. 29) when he made a surprise appearance at Killer Mike and El-P's Run The Jewels' Mass Appeal event for their new album RTJ2 in Brooklyn.

The Queensbridge rapper said his latest work is in the same vein as Run the Jewels, and he paid his respect to the two MCs.

"I've been watching them do their thing and even feeling like this is something that inspires me," he said. "I wanted to share a new record here cause this is the type of feel that I'm in. What they're doing, I'd like to say that I'm doing that kind of sound."

"The Season" features Nas rapping over a J. Dilla-produced beat about his past ("I'm here today as well as the '90s / But the past life, my ass is behind me"), rumors that Jay Electronica is his ghostwriter ("Jay Elec doesn't write it/Hov couldn't write it, he vacationing/Jungle the only brother I take sh*t from"), and his return to the crown ("The ruler's back / You can tell by the trumpets / Prince of Wales sent me tea, biscuits, and crumpets").

Nas has yet to reveal a title or release date for the album.
