Days of our Lives star Freddie Smith has pled guilty in an Ohio court to a string of charges stemming from an Oct. 7 accident that critically injured his girlfriend, Alyssa Tabit. The actor had been drinking when he got behind the wheel after leaving a wedding reception with Tabit. Smith is accused of misjudging a turn and crossing the center line of State Route 84 before hitting a culvert which caused the car to flip end-over-end.

Smith's alcohol level was higher than .093 and he has pled guilty to several charges including vehicular assault and operating the vehicle while intoxicated. His sentencing date is set for Feb. 18 and he could face up to 24 months in prison. As for Talbit, she was initially trapped in the vehicle and underwent emergency surgery. She is continuing to recover from the injuries that she sustained in the crash.

The couple had been together for a few years at the time of the crash but their current status is unclear. As of now, Smith is still portraying the character of Sonny Kiriakis on Days and it remains to be seen whether or not this case will ultimately affect his job status. Smith is certainly taking full responsibility for everything but is it enough? Do you think that he will really be facing any jail time? If not, do you think that Days is already looking for a way to smoothly give Smith his walking papers? If so, should the character of Sonny be written out or do you instead think that a recast is in order? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
