The Charlatans have announced that the recordings done by Jon Brookes before he died will be included in the upcoming album. Brookes died at the age of 44 in August from a brain tumor. The cancerous tumor came about following a seizure the drummer had while on tour in 2010.

"He has left us a lot and we can piece together a few things," the band's singer Tim Burgess told BBC 5 live. "We have got one song and we think that it is fantastic."

He went on: "That to me is the starting point and it is the first time we have really agreed on a song completely in quite a long time," he continued. "This particular one can feature Jon's drumming. The album will feature Jon, even songs that aren't written will include Jon in the writing. He's just going to be part of it."

Last month the band played a tribute for Brookes with a collection of other bands to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity at a concert at London's Royal Albert Hall. The other bands included The Vaccines, Manic Street Preachers, Beady Eye, New Order, members of Mumford & Sons.

The Charlatans will include the recordings from Brookes on the band's 12th album. This album follows the 2010 LP Who We Touch. Earlier this year the released a collection of acoustic songs on an EP called Warm Sounds.

The Charlatans formed in 1989 and have had more than 20 UK Top 40 hits. Burgess' interview with Phil Williams on the BBC 5 live will air on Tuesday.
