This time last year Shayne Lamas and Nik Richie were recovering from the biggest loss of their lives. Lamas had miscarried their son and almost lost her life in the process. Not long before this the couple had appeared on VH1's Couples Therapy to work through some tough communication issues in their marriage. After losing the baby the deck seemed stacked against them, but instead of falling apart Lamas and Richie actually pulled together. Last September, they announced that they were expecting a child via a surrogate, but they left her identity undisclosed until now. In a new interview with Closer, Lamas is now confirming that her stepmother Shawna Craig is carrying her son, who is due in July.
"Shawna's not just my stepmother. She's like a soul sister. She's an angel that blessed my whole family, including my father. It is weird. Somebody else carrying your baby is weird. But I lost my son, and now Shawna is carrying my son. I have just been given the biggest blessing in the whole world and I will always be grateful," explained Lamas.
Craig married Lamas's father Lorenzo Lamas in April 2011 and seems to have brought a sense of normalcy to the otherwise kind of eccentric family. Craig and Lamas did an episode of Celebrity Wife Swap a few years ago and she was instantly likable and seemed like she was with him for the right reasons.
It is nice to see that how she came across on television was pretty authentic. It is huge that Craig has really connected to Lamas, who has in the past admitted to being a bit lost in her celebrity family.
