Diplo did not lie at the Grammys. He said that the Jack Ü album would arrive before the end of February, and he was right on point. Thursday night, he and Skrillex dropped their long awaited debut album as a duo titled simply Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü. The LP is packed with features from artists big and small, but the big-ticket features come from Justin Bieber, 2 Chainz and AlunaGeorge.
The 10-track album features the previously released "Take Ü There" with the Missy Elliot remix of the track, but the 8 other tracks are totally new, though many have been previewed in live sets or radio mixes.
The most surprising collaboration comes from Justin Bieber who croons out an R&B tune over a subdued beat from Diplo & Skrillex that give Bieber the floor to shine over a echoing percussions, pitched synths and a bed of 808s.
DJ Snake called this track the song of the year and while superlatives like this are generally smart to avoid in February, the combination of Diplo, Skrillex and Justin Bieber on one track is a smart bet for that and after hearing their execution, Snake may not be too far off.
Fans will be grateful to find their most wanted tunes like "Febreze" with 2 Chainz, "To Ü" alongside AlunaGoerge and "Beats Knockin" with Fly Boi Keno also on the album.
