Good news for longtime Days of Our Lives fans, as we can now confirm that at least a few characters that were once an integral part of the show's history will be back onscreen later this year. In November, Days will celebrate its 50th anniversary, and as it is so often like to do, the show will mark the occasion with some familiar faces. We now know for sure that Peter Reckell and Stephen Nichols will be returning to Salem, possibly for at least a few episodes.

According to a report by Soap Opera Digest, executive producer Ken Corday confirmed the news, saying, "Stephen Nichols and Peter Reckell have signed deals to come back for the 50th anniversary. They represent two of the most popular characters in the history of the show."

A few weeks ago, Reckell let it slip on Twitter that he was talking with the NBC soap about returning as Bo Brady at least for the anniversary. In the past he has admitted he was not happy with the way his character was written out in 2012. After nearly three decades with the show, Reckell understood that he had to make room for some of the younger leading men, but he felt that the fans were gypped out of a good ending for Brady.

Nichols left the soap in 2009 after playing Stephen "Patch" Johnson for years as well. His history in the fictional Salem also spans decades, so fans are equally thrilled to hear that he will be back even for a limited time. There is also speculation now about what other beloved characters might be returning to the soap when it turns 50 Nov. 8.
