Kentucky outfit Cage the Elephant is slated to release their fourth studio album, Tell Me I'm Pretty on December 18 and just a few weeks ahead of its debut, the group dropped the album's track list along with its second single, titled "Trouble."
The 10-track RCA album already boasted the funky, Outkast-inspired track "Mess Around" which is now followed up with the group's latest single, "Trouble," Consequence Of Sound notes. The track is flooded with airy vocals paired with a contrasting distressful message. "Trouble on my left, trouble on my right/ I've been facing trouble almost all my life," front man Matthew Shultz sings on the track's chorus. Fans who pre-order the album will be given access to download "Trouble" and the album's lead single "Mess Around."
Following the wild success of 2013's Grammy-nominated Melophobia, the "Cigarette Daydreams" artists decided to tackle their impending album with the help of fellow musician and producer Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and the Arcs. Footage from the collaboration and recording process can be seen in a recently unveiled Tell Me I'm Pretty album trailer.
"A lot of the songs on the record were (recorded in) one take," Matt Shultz explains in the album trailer. "That was the one of the great things about working Dan, as a producer he's really good at keeping you from overthinking things," he added. Auerbach took on the role as producer for a number of albums including Ray LaMontagne's Supernova and Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence.
"Working with Dan was the perfect balance to our approach," the frontman told Billboard. "I think we both had similar interests in song writing and vision for the outcome but different starting places... The end result was a highly creative atmosphere that didn't lack challenge."
On December 10, Cage the Elephant will storm the stage on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
