DJ Shadow has announced his first album in five years. The LP titled The Mountain Will Fall features a variety of names like ambient and downtempo producer Nils Frahm, Run The Jewels, G. Jones and Liquid Amber signee Bleep Bloop on the tracklist. He also detailed the release date for the LP, which will drop on Nas' Mass Appeal Records.

To bolster the album announcement, Shadow has shared the album's title track, which also happens to be its intro. It is slower and more ambient that what fans may be expecting from DJ Shadow, with long synth chords and the same punchy percussion one might find on his other records, but implemented to compliment the melody, not be the focal point of the track.

The album finds Shadow in different lane from his traditional sample-based approach to crafting songs. Instead he has taken up more traditional songwriting and instrumentation, which can be seen with the inclusion of Nils Frahm on the tracklist.

According to a press release, Shadow decided to move in this direction for The Mountain Will Fall after a gig at LA Club Low End Theory. Afterwards he decided to explore Ableton Live further to unlock new ways of writing songs. During this period he also founded his own label Liquid Amber, which signed Bleep Bloop, who is found on the record.

He also shared a message on his Twitter about the process of recording.

DJ Shadow's The Mountain Will Fall will be released June 24 on Mass Appeal Records. Pre-order a copy here.
