Moviegoers saw their fair share of best and worse movies in 2017 from different genres, be it comedy, romance, horror or action. Hollywood studios competed for a top spot on the global and domestic box office, but only a few made it to the top three because they wowed viewers with its remarkable movies.

'Coco'

Inspired by Mexico's Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Coco follows the story of Miguel Rivera, a 12-year-old boy whose love for music accidentally transports him to the land of the dead. There he meets a man named Hector, who turned out to be his dead musician great-great-grandfather, whom he asked for help to return him to the land of the living. Miguel's adventures with Hector introduced him to the family he never knew.

Coco is an animated film that focuses on family. It is nostalgic in ways that it brings memories of dead loved ones to life. The movie is packed with emotions and provides a colorful visualization of what the land of the dead could look like.

'Baby Driver'

There is not a dull moment in this action-packed film by Edgar Wright (Ant-Man). This soundtrack-heavy movie stars Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars) as Baby, a getaway driver who suffers Tinnitus, the result of a car accident when he was a young boy that left him an orphan.

Baby relies on his numerous MP3 players to drown out the painful shrill in his ears. He uses the beat from the songs he listens to in every bank heist. This makes the action sequences appealing to watch since they are choreographed around the current musical selection.

The romantic subplot is also subtle yet sweet. The love story between Baby and diner waitress Deborah (Lily James) sets the turning point for Baby to start a new life away from trouble.

'Logan'

Logan did not disappoint fans who flocked to theaters to see Hugh Jackman's final performance as the Wolverine. Packed with gritty and bloody action sequences, the film marked the mutant's final moments as a superhero. Logan sacrificed his life to be a hero for one last time.

'Get Out'

The eerie and mysterious vibe surrounding the film makes Get Out a must watch for fans of dark comedy. The surprising plot twist moves the story forward. The suspense makes viewers want to watch the film until the end to know if the protagonist makes it out alive or not.

'Thor: Ragnarok'

The Marvel Cinematic Universe never fails to amuse, thrill and excite fans. Thor: Ragnarok is a must-watch because of its wacky scenes, awesome battle sequences and surprising character development.
