Canadian hip-hop superstar Drake is the only artist to have as many hit singles as the British rock legend The Beatles within one decade.
This week, the multi-awarded singer-songwriter has two songs on the Hot 100 Chart. The song "God's Plan" made its debut at the number 1 spot whereas "Diplomatic Immunity" immediately made its way to number 7 after its release.
This marks the 31-year-old's 20th Top 10 hits since he entered the chart in 2010 with "Find Your Love," a song from the album Thank Me Later. He hit his first number 1 within the same year with "What's My Name," a song that featured Rihanna.
His other chart-topping hits include "Make Me Proud," "Take Care," "Hold On, We're Going Home," and the viral hit of 2015 "Hotline Bling." His collaborations with DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, A$AP Rocky, and Rihanna also helped him land more Top 10 hits.
Becoming A Legend
Right now, Drake is the only modern artist who has at least 20 songs that landed on the Top 10 in one decade. The only other act to achieve the same feat is The Beatles.
Of course, the British band has a more impressive record because they had 20 hits within a shorter span of time. Their first Top 20 song "I Want To Hold Your Hand" from the album Meet The Beatles was released in 1964. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison has a total of 30 Top 10 hits, most of which peaked at the top spot, within 10 years.
Right behind Drake is Mariah Carey who currently has 19 hits to appear on the Top 10 chart, 14 of which reached number 1.
Setting His Own Record
While he still has a long way to go before he catches up with The Beatles, Drake is already setting his own records. "God's Plan" released last month already broke the record for same-day streams on Spotify in the United States. The song was streamed 4,739,798 on Jan. 25, according to Chart Data.
Before "God's Plan," the record was held by Taylor Swift's hit "Look What You Made Me Do" from the album Reputation.
The rapper was named the most-streamed artist back in 2016 and his song "One Dance" was once the most-streamed song online. Right now, Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" is the most-streamed song on Spotify ever.
Drake's new single also broke streaming records on Apple Music. "God's Plan" was streamed over 14 million times all over the world during its first day on the music platform.
