Lewis Capaldi is gearing up for the release of his next LP, "Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent," and he had some stories to tell about the creative process behind the upcoming album, which apparently features Ed Sheeran.

The Scottish singer-songwriter revealed that he tapped Ed Sheeran to collaborate with him for a song off the album. The song in question is entitled "Pointless," and has Sheeran credited as a co-writer.

In his interview with BBC News, Capaldi noted that he had to dust off some parts of the song. One line in particular, which was written by the English singer-songwriter, was just a bit too outdated.

The supposed lyrics read, "She gives me more than everything, I'll give her my last name."

"I was like, 'Ed, this is 2022,'" the 26-year-old singer exclaimed. "'No one has to take anyone's second name. I'm not singing that!'"

To give emphasis to his point he added, "I don't even think that Ed's own wife has got his last name."

And while Capaldi revealed the original line from the lyrics of the song, he did not share what he changed the lyrics with, or if Sheeran changed the lyrics himself.

Wary Ego

Elsewhere in his interview with BBC News, the "Someone You Loved" singer admitted that he was initially skeptical of working with Sheeran.

"Every British artist who has a number one record seems to have Ed on it," he noted. "That's a testament to how good he is but I was wary of it."

"My ego was going, 'I don't want people thinking Ed wrote my song,'" he added.

Sheeran was understanding of his worries and even offered to take up a pseudonym, however, Capaldi continued, " but at the end of the day, he did help write it so there should be no question."

"Pointless" will mark Capaldi and Sheeran's first collaboration together. Capaldi described it as an "out-and-out love song" as BBC News put it, that "brought out the softy in [him]."

While this might be the pair's first collab song together, and the song is yet to be released, fans are already eager to have another collaboration in the future.

Capaldi rose to prominence following the release of his debut album in 2019. He later caught the eye of several artists, namely Niall Horan and Sam Smith, with the latter having had invited Capaldi to open his tour for him.

In 2019, he dropped his hit single "Someone You Loved," which topped the UK Singles Chart and US Billboard Hot 100. It was also nominated at the 62nd Grammy Awards for Song of the Year, and won the Brit Award Song of the Year.
