The Weeknd is one of this generation's biggest, most successful, and most talented stars in the music industry, and he's about to launch a new career.

The film industry better watch out for the 33-year-old hitmaker because he is about to make his acting debut in a feature film, under the helm of director Trey Edward Shults.

There is not a lot know about the upcoming movie The Weeknd will star in, as it remains to be untitled and the plot unknown, but there are a few details that have been released.

According to Deadline, the Canadian singer will star alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.

The Weeknd, who has produced and starred in the HBO drama series "Idol," co-wrote the script with Shults and Reza Fahim

The producers of this movie include The Weeknd himself, Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss, while Shults and Ortega serve as executive producers.

Film enthusiasts might recognize Shults as the director of the 2019 movie "Waves," 2017's "It comes at Night," and 2015's "Krisha."

On the other hand, Ortega is best known for her role as Wednesday Adams in the Netflix series "Wednesday," as well as other movies like "The Fallout" in 2021, "The Babysitter: Killer Queen" in 2020, "Wyrm" in 2019, and 2022's "Scream."

According to Rap-Up, the multi-awarded singer has been working on this upcoming movie's script for several months now.

Apparently, his two co-stars immediately signed on after "being blown away by the script."

Furthermore, the movie's music will be handled by Oneohtrix Point Never, a composer and producer who also worked on other shows like "Uncut Gems."

The Weeknd's Success Streak

This is yet another milestone in The Weeknd's career, as he had just recently been named the first artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on the music streaming app, Spotify.

Reports note that this new achievement comes shortly after the release of his "Die for You" remix with Ariana Grande.

The duet was such a massive hit that it immediately entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Weeknd released his first studio album in 2013, "Kiss Land," followed by "Beauty Behind the Madness" in 2015; the critically-acclaimed "Starboy" came in 2016, "After Hours" was released in 2020, then "Dawn FM."
