Sam Smith recently teased the arrival of a new collaboration with Anitta. The news came days after the singer canceled their shows in Birmingham and Manchester.

As for Anitta, the new collaboration might be her first project with Republic Records, her new label following her exit from Warner Music.

However, what surprised many was the reason why the shows were canceled.

"Doctors have advised due to a vocal cord injury, Sam must have complete vocal rest," the press release said. "Sam is heartbroken to have had to cancel these shows but they have been told by doctors that if they keep singing, they will do permanent damage to their voice. If they take some rest they will be able to perform again."

Anitta Joins Republic, Victoriously Leaves Warner

On the other hand, Anitta has been enjoying her new voice as she recently signed to Republic Records after a longstanding battle with her former label, Warner Music.

In one of her rants, Anitta revealed that she had to fight tooth and nail for her single "Envolver" as the label wanted another huge artist to collaborate with her after noting that it could not be successful on her own.

A now-deleted joint statement was released earlier this year announcing their separation.

"After eleven years of successful partnership, we've agreed to go our separate ways. Anitta would like to thank the Warner Music team for all their support. And the Warner team wishes Anitta all the best in future," both parties said.
