Staind's guitarist Mike Mushok reflected on the band's extended hiatus as disbandment rumors lurked around.

After a long wait, Staind released new material - a music video for "Lowest In Me" - which followed its 2021 album, "Live: It's Been Awhile." The latter project came alongside the two-part global streaming series, "The Return of Staind."

What Mike Mushok Thought About Staind's Split

Due to Staind's long hiatus, the band dealt with queries about whether it would disband or not. Amid the worries, Mushok revealed what he thought about it and said he knew they would always "get back together and do something."

Speaking with Springfield, Missouri's rock station Q102, the guitarist assured the listeners that Staind's split was not part of the band's plans.

"I don't know," he said. "Through the whole thing, we would always talk and I always thought we'd get back together and do something. There were never really any plans for that to happen."

One man then helped them get back together: Ben Kitterman.

According to Mushok, Kitterman told him that the band should work again, as Aaron Lewis was also prepared to do it. Thus, they held their first reunion shows in 2019 and signed a record deal afterward.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic hit them, as well, Staind toured with Korn and spent time working on their new music.

Staind surprised everyone when its single, "Lowest In Me," hit the No. 1 Active Rock list. The band would drop its first full-length album since 2011 on September 15.
