Shane MacGowan's Final Resting Place, Funeral Details

RTE cited MacGowan's family sharing that his funeral will be open to the public, and it will start on Friday, December 8.

The cortege will leave Nenagh and travel to Dublin where a procession across the city to St. Mary of the Rosary church will take place. Meanwhile, MacGowan's remains will be returned to Tipperary and cremated, with his ashes to be scattered across his final resting place: Ireland's longest river, Shannon.

MacGowan notably wrote lyrics about the river and sang it on his track, "The Broad Majestic Shannon" from The Pogues' "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" album.

"So I walked as the day was dawning/ Where small birds sang and leaves were falling/ Where we once watched the rowboats landing/ On the broad majestic Shannon," he sang on the track.

His wife told the media outlet that MacGowan was discharged on November 22. He spent his final days with friends and family until his death on November 30 due to pneumonia after months of battle against encephalitis.

"He was trying very hard to breathe," Clarke said. "He wasn't ready to give up. He wasn't ready to stop fighting - but his body did it for him."

Clarke also disclosed that MacGowan completed an album prior to his demise.
