"Renaissance: A Beyoncé Film" took a major swing from the box office after it landed on the fifth spot of the domestic rankings this week.
"Renaissance" scored a huge on its opening weekend, but surprisingly fell several spots immediately.
'Renaissance: A Beyoncé Film' Second Week Splat
"Renaissance: A Beyoncé Film" is tied with Disney's "Wish" for the fifth spot on domestic rankings based on AMC Theatres.
The close race actually lands "Wish" as higher than "Renaissance" with the former grossing $5.3 million, with the latter only grossing $5 million flat. However, the ranking seemed debatable as in some places, "Renaissance" was said to have grossed around $5.5 million.
By Monday, the actual numbers will be released, so the actual standing can differ.
Whether it would land on the fifth or sixth spot, the gap of the second week, significantly widened compared to its opening week numbers - $21 million - which was a record in itself as the first film to open in 20 years post-thanksgiving to rake in $20 million.
The Hollywood Reporter suggested that the big drop was because it was "frontloaded and is relying primarily on superfans." Similarly, Taylor Swift's "The Eras Tour" doc film and "Renaissance" only played from Thursdays to Sundays.
Overtaking the No. 1 spot at the domestic opening weekend box office is Hayao Miyazaki's latest animated film, "The Boy and the Heron"." It arrived with a record-breaking $12.8 million sale, making it the first anime movie to debut at the top of the North American box office charts.
"The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" remains steadfast at No. 2 with a projected sum of $10 million dollars. It is proceeded by "Godzilla Minus One" at No. 3 and "Trolls Band Together" at No. 4.

Comparing 'Renaissance' vs 'The Eras Tour' Films
Beyoncé's "Renaissance: A Beyoncé Film" only landed at $21 million on its opening weekend - nothing compared to Taylor Swift's gargantuan $92.8 million box-office opening.
According to NBC News, Swift's second week was also huge, amassing $31 million in domestic theatres nationwide.
Comparing their actual concerts - Beyoncé leads, at least by official numbers. To date, Beyoncé's "Renaissance" tour is the biggest tour of 2023. This is because Taylor Swift's "The Eras Tour," despite being projected to breach the historic $1 billion mark, and $2 million by the end of the whole tour, wouldn't be officially considered by rankings and lists because her team would not release official numbers to the press.
