  • Is Aphex Twin Releasing Hours of Unreleased Music on Soundcloud?

Who doesn't love a good old-fashioned mystery? We know Aphex Twin loves them. Over the past few days, hours of mysterious music has been uploaded to a couple of different soundcloud accounts that appear to be under the guise of Aphex Twin, but no one is totally certain. Richard James has not confirmed or denied the whole affair, though he is pretty tightlipped about most things that aren't technology.
  • Aphex Twin Shares 'Diskhat ALL Prepared1mixed' from New EP [LISTEN]

Tomorrow, Jan. 23, electronic artist Aphex Twin — aka Richard D. James — will be releasing his new EP "Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments PT 2," but today he has offered a small taste of the EP by sharing a remix of its opening track "Diskhat ALL Prepared1mixed 13" through his newly created SoundCloud page, which you can check out below. The track is relatively low-key and moody, with some krautrock-inspired percussion and an emphasis on the space between notes as much as the notes themselves. As the title of the EP implies, the track seems to be rooted in acoustic instruments such as drums and piano, which have then been manipulated by computers. You can't really dance to it — do people really dance to Aphex Twin? — but it is still incredible.
  • 7 Solo Artists Who Have Performed Under Multiple Names

As good as your music may be, one of the most important aspects of "making it" in the music business is simply getting your name out there, and making sure people remember it. These seven artists, however, decided to switch between multiple aliases, largely for artistic reasons, which probably makes organizing their albums in a record store a huge pain.
  • Aphex Twin Announces New EP Via Warp Records

Aphex Twin, real name Richard D. James, just released his first album in 13 years last September and he already gearing up for another multi-track release on Warp Records. The "Syro" producer will be releasing a 14-track EP titled Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt. 2. Announced via Warp Records today (Jan. 9), there is not much further information about the EP except that it will be released on Jan. 23 and the tracklist. It still isn't clear what happened to part 1, but that could come at some point. Aphex Twin has never been one to do things conventionally, just look at the track titles, so the first EP may never hit stores or just might be something for a later date.
  • Aphex Twin Answers 25 Questions from Skrillex, Richie Hawtin, Nicolas Jaar, Others

The enigmatic and at times odd Richard David James, better known as Apex Twin, shocked the world when he released an album this year after being silent for the previous 13. Using some rather ingenious marketing techniques, including an Aphex Twin Blimp over the London skies and Aphex Twin logos graffitied onto the streets of New York. The release of "Syro" has impressed his fans and music critics alike, earning plaudits and landing in the top spots of most end-of-year rankings. In honor of his 2014 and the 25th anniversary of "Groove" magazine, he fielded 25 questions from other highly touted DJs, including Skrillex, Caribou, Ben Klock and Richie Hawtin and answered them in kind. Below are some of the highlights, via "FACT."
  • 8 Best Musical Comebacks of '14: Garth Brooks, D'Angelo, More

For whatever reason, 2014 was the year where a ton of musicians decided to get their acts together and reunite, come out of retirement or finally release that album we have been desperately craving for more than 10 years. Here are 2014's eight best comebacks:
  • 10 Best Album Covers Of 2014

Music lovers often experience album covers before hearing the album itself, so it's pretty appropriate that we're publishing our list of the best album covers of 2014 before our list of best albums of 2014 (stay tuned for that one in a few weeks, by the way). Here are the year's top 10 album covers.
  • NME Releases Full List of Best Albums of 2014: St. Vincent, Mac DeMarco and The War on Drugs Lead The Way

Earlier this week we passed along the news that NME had released its choice for the best album of 2014. In its esteemed opinion, St. Vincent and her self-titled album took top prize this year, marking the first time in six years that a performer from outside of the "commonwealth" topped the British publication's list. The magazine published its full Top 50 on Thursday. You can check out the full thing here, or scroll down to see at least the Top 10.
  • Aphex Twin Releases 21 New Songs for Free on SoundCloud

Did Richard D. James, known professionally as Aphex Twin, just try and pull a Beyoncé? Last week he supposedly uploaded tracks made by his 6-year old son, who was 5 at the time of their creation. Now he has decided to put onto his account 21 tracks — 42 minutes 57 seconds in total of new music. This is the second part of his Syrobonkers interview with blogger Dave Noyze, which the first segment revealed that his son was making music when he was 2. Though this seems far from a finished, complete album, to have 21 new tracks from Aphex Twin for free on his SoundCloud is a shock to the system after he just released his album via Warp Records "Syro." Before that, he was silent with no music for 13 years, so this much Aphex Twin music — sounds that take time to fully digest — is a shock to the system and is indicative of his wonky, zany style. As per Fact Mag, the tracks were made about 12 years ago on Buckla and Serge modular synthesizers, which Aphex Twin describes as "a f--king racket." This collection is not for the lighthearted and for some casual listening. This is weird, trippy stuff that you would expect from Aphex Twin as he explores the limits of Buckla and Serge modular synthesizers.

Classic new wave group Simple Minds, best known for their 1985 hit “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” has shared a new single “Midnight Walking” from their upcoming album Big Music, which you can check out over at Consequence of Sound. The dancey track features some delicious synths that wouldn’t be out of place on an Aphex Twin song, so these guys definitely don’t sound like they’re stuck in the past.
  • Meiko Returns With Dark, Electro-Tinged Third Album, 'Dear You,' [EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

  • 10 Albums With Anti-Cover Artwork: Kanye West, The Beatles, And More

Today, U2 shared the official cover to their latest album Songs of Innocence, and though the official cover is definitely more professional and artistic, I actually prefer the minimalist anti-cover that was used for its initial release. Here are 10 more albums with similar anti-covers.
  • 10 Albums That Are Partially Self-Titled
