• Primal Scream Announce North American Tour For May [FULL SCHEDULE]

    Although they don't have a new album to support (at least not yet), Scottish alt-rock veterans Primal Scream have announced a brief North American tour to follow their appearance at Austin Psych Fest's Levitation Festival on May 9. According to Brooklynvegan, the band will hit New Orleans, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, and New York City, finishing up in Brooklyn on May 21.

    The latest festival to announce its 2015 line-up is Primavera Sound, which is celebrating its 15th year. The line-up was originally announced through an app called Line-App, but if you don't feel like downloading that, you can just watch the video announcement below. As can be expected from Primavera Sound, this year's lineup is absolutely killer. Among the most notable acts performing this year are Alt-J, The Black Keys, Belle & Sebastian, The Strokes, Run The Jewels, Interpol, Sun Kil Moon, Spiritualized, Mac DeMarco, Patti Smith, Panda Bear, The New Pornographers, Caribou, Ariel Pink, Tyler, The Creator, Swans, Brand New, Twin Shadow, and many, many more.

  • Mac DeMarco Embarking On World Tour In Support Of Latest Album 'Salad Days' [FULL SCHEDULE]

    Canadian slack-rock hero Mac DeMarco will be setting out on a world tour in support of his latest album Salad Days. According to Pitchfork, the tour kicks off tomorrow, Jan. 15, in Tokyo, and takes DeMarco to South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico before he hits the US in April for Coachella. The tour ends in June with DeMarco's appearance at Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee.

    Glares were exchanged. Words were said that can't be taken back. Punches weren't quite thrown, although two Music Times editors (that won't be named) did engage in a karate chop battle reminiscent of the Clark Griswold vs. Plastic Lawn Reindeer battle of '91. When all was said and done however, the staff had managed to narrow a list of 943 albums down to a mere 10. Old standards like Jack White and Beck proved that their status within the music community was intact, and newer, much buzzed about acts including Sturgill Simpson proved themselves worthy of consideration during the previous 12 months.

    asdEven though he has no upcoming album or mixtape projects that we know about, Wiz Khalifa keeps dropping new songs, his latest being the exceptionally trippy and laidback "Smoke Chambers," which you can check out below. The song heavily samples fellow stoner Mac DeMarco's synthpop number "Chamber of Reflection" from his latest album Salad Days, even keeping DeMarco's original "alone again" vocal hook, which ties in to Khalifa's theme of the alienation his fame has brought him. This is the sort of hazy production that Khalifa should be using more often.

    Earlier this week we passed along the news that NME had released its choice for the best album of 2014. In its esteemed opinion, St. Vincent and her self-titled album took top prize this year, marking the first time in six years that a performer from outside of the "commonwealth" topped the British publication's list.     The good news for those based in New York is that UK music publications have all released their biggest stories for the day by the time we wake up, giving us something to do as soon as we get to the office, thanks to a five-hour time difference. As coincidence would have it, NME also released its "best of" 2014 lists more than a month ahead of Christmas (which, unfortunately, may have hurt Britain's own One Direction down the stretch). St. Vincent took the top prize for Album of The Year with her self-titled release. Future Islands earned Track of The Year for "Seasons (Waiting On You)."

  • Polaris Music Prize Shortlist Announced: Arcade Fire, Drake, Mac DeMarco, And More

    Pitchfork reports that the shortlist of nominees for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize has been revealed. The recipient of the annual award, which honors the best Canadian album of the year, "is selected by a large panel of Canadian journalists and broadcasters," and will be announced on September 22 at the Polaris Gala. The winner also receives a prize of $30,000.
