• Missy Elliott's Streams on Spotify Spike 646 Percent Following Halftime Super Bowl Performance

    People must have forgotten about Missy Elliott. After seeing her she perform parts of "Get Ur Freak On" and "Work It" during Katy Perry's halftime performance at the Super Bowl last night, intrigued listeners and fans alike took to Spotify to hear some more. Streams of Missy's music increased by 646 percent, an astonishing amount considering Perry's streams only increased by 85 percent and Lenny Kravitz's popped up 103 percent. Some people liked the tunes so much that they went over to iTunes and purchased a few tracks.

    Advertisers paid more than $4.5 million per 30 seconds of airtime during the Super Bowl last night so they like to know that their wares get people's attention. One way to do this is to examine what soundtracks get Shazamed, or searched using music identification service Shazam. Last night's most Shazamed moments came during the halftime show (more on that later) but outside of that it looked like New York songwriter Marc Scibilia induced the most curiosity with his rendition of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" featured during a Jeep commercial.

    Lil' Kim, Missy Elliott and Da Brat reunited at the Soul Train Awards last month for a performance of their 1997 collaboration "Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix)." The show aired last night, Nov. 30, and the crowd was loving every minute of it. Eric Benet sang the intro while Total, MC Lyte, The Lady of Rage and Yo-Yo all joined in on the fun. The performance even included the Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes verse via a screen playing the music video. The audience erupted when Lil' Kim strutted onstage in the video below. She kicked off the wild song, eventually getting into her Shmoney Dance, "MTV News" noted. Left Eye's verse followed before Da Brat came out with some furious energy. Missy Elliott closed out the track and thanked everyone for their support: I speak 4 my sistas @Lilkim @ONLY1BRAT we truly thank y'all 4 the ❤️& we truly miss LeftEye she will always be a gem!

    Lifetime's Aaliyah biopic premiered last night, Nov. 15, and so far no one has been impressed by it. "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B" has actually been catching a fair amount of flak from artists and fans alike. Producer and Aaliyah friend Timbaland took to his social media accounts to voice his displeasure with the movie. Timbaland's Instagram is littered with memes throwing shade at the biopic. He even posted a video, "Billboard" points out, where he talks about his problems with the film. "I think everyone [sic] musician portrayed in this Aaliyah movie should sue the hell out Lifetime movie for failure of accurate casting," he said in the video. "A lot of people keep asking me if I'm watching that bullshit. Evidently not," Timbaland added in another post. "No way. Not Timbo. People, thanks for the comments tonight on that bullshit Aaliyah movie. They have felt Timbo's wrath tonight, baby, and that's it."
