• 'Good Time' theft lawsuit results in massive fine for Carly Rae Jepsen, Owl City

It seems like Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City's good time together is over. Yesterday (Jan. 30), a judge settled a lawsuit between little known singer Ally Burnett and Jepsen and Adam Young (Owl City) with the pronouncement that their 2012 top 10 single "Good Time" was too similar to Burnett's own track "Ah, It's A Love Song." And now they have to pay a hefty fine.
  • Jimi Hendrix biopic, A$AP Mob documentary among films appearing at SXSW

South by Southwest is well-established as the largest music showcase in the world. So how did organizers build on that reputation? By attempting to make it the biggest music film showcase in the world as well. A number of documentaries and dramas will be showing in Austin, just in case you get sick of listening to music. Here are some highlights:

  • Throwback Thursday: 'Violet' by Hole

The biggest day in the footballs is right around the corner... the Super Bowl. The 2014 edition of the American tradition will see the Denver Broncos take on the Seattle Seahawks. The music of Denver... not so well established. There's OneRepublic (kind of), India.Arie (ish... she was born there) and a few other acts, but the city has no distinct sound. Seattle, on the other hand, has been the birthplace of hard rock for over two decades, most notably grunge, which as we all know, rose in 1991 like a black hole sun all thanks to Nirvana. But, we know enough about Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. Instead, for this week's Throwback Thursday, let's look a little to the left of those guys at Hole.
  • 'American Idol' Season 13 Recap: 5 Best Auditions From Mediocre Omaha Showcase

You would think American Idol would want to lead its viewers into its 13th Hollywood week of a struggling series with the best round of auditions ever, right? After last week's stellar showings with some of the best Idol talent in years from Detroit and Atlanta, and even last night's solid Salt Lake City auditions would lead you to believe Omaha had big things in store. But. Nope. These were the most mediocre auditions of the season by a long shot.
  • Scotty McCreery on the See You Tonight Tour

It's hard to believe that it was only four years ago that America met and fell in love with Scotty McCreery on American Idol. His debut album, "Clear As Day," went platinum in just 13 weeks and became the best-selling solo album released by a country artist in 2011. With that project, Scotty became the youngest man in history to have his first album debut atop the all-genre Billboard Top 200 albums chart. A Christmas album did well (went gold) and his third release, "See You Tonight" is well on its way.
