Katy Perry is seeing her popularity rise with the beginning of 2014, as her single "Dark Horse" rose to the top of the Digital Downloads charts last week and her album PRISM has risen on the Billboard 200 accordingly. The pop star is taking advantage of the situation and launching the "Prismatic" tour to build off that success. Dates won't actually begin until June, but she might as well build off the hype. -

In the beginning of October we reported that The Dead Weather would release a series of new singles leading up to a new album in 2015. We heard the first track of the series, the ghoulish garage-blues rocker "Open Up (That's Enough)" back in December, but now the band has released the B-side "Rough Detective." -

After a tumultuous season 12, with infighting between judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey making bigger headlines than any of the singers on the show, American Idol made some big changes for its season 13 premiere on Jan. 15. Most notably, Jennifer Lopez has returned as a judge and Harry Connick, Jr. has joined the panel, chalking the show up for some refocusing on the music and, of course trying to beat that ooother talent show competition. -

Despite, as Consequence of Sound notes, the fact that Florida is where many festivals (save Ultra and Bear Creek) go to die, a new festival has sprung up called Big Guava Music Festival. The inaugural festival takes place May 2-4 in Tampa and with the lineup it is boasting, it might just get Florida back in the festival game. -
