    Kacey Musgraves has been making huge waves in the country music world since her debut studio album Same Trailer, Different Park was released in March. The 25-year-old reached No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 Album Chart and peaked at the top of the Country album charts. Musgraves pulled from not just the traditional country scene but also from pop, rockabilly and blues to create a new, original sound with a sweet edge.

    Alabama Shakes revealed in an interview with Miami News Times that their sophomore studio album is almost complete. Drummer Steve Johnson told them that the tracking for the album is finished, though a title for the follow up to 2012's debut Boys & Girls has not yet been chosen.

    The Coen Brothers' upcoming film, Inside Llewyn Davis, staring Justin Timberlake and Carey Mulligan along with the title character played by Oscar Issac, opens in New York and Los Angeles on Friday. A cover of Hedy West's folk classic "Five Hundred Miles," performed by Timberlake, Mulligan and Stark Sands premiered yesterday in a clip from the film. It shows the three musicians (Jim, Jean and Troy) performing at the famed Gaslight Café.

    Many have proposed that the United States could cut back crime rates, as well as turning a profit, if it were to just legalize marijuana. No more drug dealers (for that herb at least) selling or committing other crimes in the midst of selling. Taxation and regulation generating income for the state. It's a little idealistic, but might be worth a shot. Israel is taking a similar approach to music pirating.

    A year ago, Trent Reznor announced his involvement as creative chief with Beats Music (formerly dubbed "Daisy"), a new music-streaming site being launched by Dr. Dre and Interscope Geffen A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine through Beats Electronics, the company that makes Beats by Dre headphones. Now the company has announced that the site will launch in January.

  • Spotify reveals how much it pays per stream, and it isn't much

    Spotify has opened up a little bit with regards to the continuing argument between the service, musicians and the music industry, but don't look for the squalor to die down anytime soon. The music streaming site has launched a new Spotify Artists website to detail how much musicians can expect to earn from the average song-stream.

  • Best Coast release new video for 'This Lonely Morning' via Funny or Die

    Best Coast has released a new lyric video, via Funny or Die, for the track "This Lonely Morning." It features Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno playing tennis and really looking the part, in their own way. Wardrobe was on top of it. Not everyone plays tennis in thigh-high stockings and a plaid skirt, but of course Cosentino can pull it off. The song is from the band's recent mini-album Fade Away.
