    Gorillaz singer Damon Albarn filled in as the guest DJ on Dermot O'Leary's BBC Radio 2 show on Oct. 5. During the show, he interviewed Idris Elba and The Clash's Paul Simonon. He also debuted an unreleased Gorillaz track called "Whirlwind," which didn't make the cut for 2010's Plastic Beach.

    Alt-pop vocalist Sky Ferreira has cancelled the remainder of her dates opening for Vampire Weekend, due to a vocal injury. The songstress had announced previously that she would take off concerts from this week in order to rest her vocal cords, however a performance in San Diego on October 1 caused a hemorrhage to form.
  • Rap Genius Introduces New Program to Track Word Usage in Hip-Hop: The Most Fun You'll Have With Analytics This Year

    Rap Genius has recently added a new feature utilizing Google-style analytics to analyze linguistic trends within hip-hop. "Rap Stats," the name of the new feature, allows users to enter search terms, and the service goes through every track in Rap Genius's catalog and takes note of songs that feature the searched term. The site then offers a line graph showing how usage of the word has ranged throughout the history of hip-hop.

    The National Football League isn't the only organization that's going pink in honor of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In fact, there are probably literally hundreds of groups denoting the cause. In terms of music, it's hard to find a genre more involved than the country music scene. Even pop music with all of its female superstars struggles to live up to Nashville, both male and female country musicians. Once again, the historic Grand Ole Opry barn will be lit-up pink to raise awareness.
