Victoria Monet Wins Best New Artist Award Twice

Despite making music since the early 2010s, Monet was only recognized as a fully-fledged artist in 2024 after releasing her debut album, "Jaguar II," in 2023.

"It honestly feels like I've been waiting all my life," the singer-songwriter said in an interview. "I moved to L.A. 15 years ago to pursue it, but I think even before that, GRAMMYs were in the dream, so yeah, forever, it's been forever. So, it feels that much greater to be in this moment right now [sic].

"I know the quote is, 'it takes 10 years to be overnight success.' Well I'm a overnight and a half because it's been 15," she added.

Monet has written and collaborated with several chart-topping artists in the past, including Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony, BLACKPINK, Travis Scott, Chloe x Halle, Chris Brown, and more.

"There are so many stars in this room, behind the scenes [and] in front of the curtains. So I want to shout out to all of you women in here who are sometimes doing the thankless jobs," the singer said in her acceptance speech.

Elsewhere in her speech, Monet also hinted that more music will soon come and that she will not be a one-hit-wonder artist but a household name in the music industry.

"Thank you, Billboard, for acknowledging me and seeing me. I also love that as a rising star, [I'm] not a shooting star because shooting stars are here and gone much too fast. I plan to be here for a while."
