Chance the Rapper and his wife, Kirsten Corley, are getting divorced after five years of marriage.

The pair announced that they are splitting up through a joint statement posted on their Instagram stories, revealing that the decision came "after a period of separation." They state that the amicable decision comes with gratitude for their time together, as they prepare to co-parent their two daughters together.

"After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways. We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the same time we spent together. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together."

However, those hoping to get more information about what led to the divorce through new music may be out of luck. The statement ends with the former couple requesting "privacy and respect" as they head for divorce.

"We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition," the statement concludes.

While the exact reasoning for their split is being kept private, select events in recent years have signaled that there may have been trouble within their marriage.

In 2022, Corly dismissed outrage from fans who had noticed that the rapper had publicly liked pornographic content on Twitter. When their followers made sure she noticed the video, XXL reports that she stated that they were "reaching" by drawing attention to it.

"He's never going to address this, but all I have to say is, we were literally at an event all night the night before last, until late. We were celebrating. So, sometimes shit happens on accident. So, all you little trolls that are coming to my page that are getting blocked, y'all can go to hell," Corley said in a video on her Instagram story.

Last year, Chance caught heat when videos surfaced of him grinding on different women at Carnival in Jamaica, XXL reports. As the videos went viral on social media, his now ex-wife shared a quote by Maya Angelou on her Instagram story. The passage read, "Most people don't grow up. It's too damn difficult. What happens is most people get older. That's the truth of it ... It's serious business. And You find out what it costs us to love and to lose, to dare and to fail. And maybe even more, to succeed."

Aside from their public missteps, the couple has been open about their years-long love story. They first began dating in 2013, giving birth to their first daughter in 2015. Following a brief split, they tied the knot in 2019. Five months after the ceremony, they welcomed their second daughter.
