Grammy-winning singer SZA and Keke Palmer will star in an upcoming film directed by Issa Rae for TriStar Pictures.

Reportedly, the still-untitled film is a buddy-cop film, with Rap Sh!t director Lawrence Lamont set to direct.

SZA, Keke Palmer Cast in New Issa Rae Film

Deadline reports that SZA, who is currently on the road for her SOS tour, was recently cast alongside Emmy-winning host and actress Palmer in a new buddy-cop film produced by Issa Rae.

With Lamont set to direct, his former collaborator on Rap Sh!t, Syreeta Singleton, will write the screenplay for the upcoming comedy film.

As of this writing, the plot for the upcoming film has yet to be revealed. However, Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi will be producing the film through Rae's HOORAE. They will be joined by ColorCreative's Deniese Davis and Charles D. King, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks from Macro Film Studios.

Reportedly, the film was a project of the CoCre lab at Sony Pictures, where it was aimed to source and incubate emerging and diverse screenwriters to develop and write their first studio feature using original ideas.

SZA and Palmer have obviously linked up in the past. The two appeared at the same time on Saturday Night Live in 2023, where the former served as a musical guest while Palmer hosted. While Palmer has acted in plenty of films already, the new movie would mark SZA's acting debut.

Fans React to SZA, Keke Palmer New Movie

Fans of both artists on social media were thrilled to hear of the casting announcement.

"why do i feel like that meme of the two of them looking concerned while normal girl plays in the background had some kind of influence on this lol," a user said on Reddit, referencing the viral GIF meme taken from their promotional video for Saturday Night Live.

"These 3 together? It's gonna be other worldly," another raved.

"Wait, what?! SZA and Keke Palmer in a buddy comedy? Is this real life, or did I accidentally step into a parallel universe before my coffee?" one posted on X, formerly Twitter.

One even pointed out the genius idea of Rae producing the film because of how connected she is with current pop trends.

"I mean, we know Issa Rae reads twitter from that time she wrote about black people frolicking almost word-for-word after it was big that summer on twitter," one emphasized.
