Taylor Swift gave Charlie Puth a big shoutout for one of her songs from The Tortured Poets Department, saying that she and another man declared that he should be a bigger artist. However, the musician didn't believe the lyric at first as he initially thought it was generated by AI.

The See You Again hitmaker recently spoke with Rolling Stone for an interview where he recalled finding out about getting a shoutout from the mega pop superstar, saying he brushed it off at first.

The 32-year-old star said a friend told him about the track's lyrics prior to the album's official release. He thought the person was mistaken that the "Fortnight" songstress mentioned him in an interview.

Later on, he thought that it was a product of artificial intelligence.

"I'm going to wake up tomorrow and it was just a big joke that someone was playing on me because someone thinks I shouldn't be a bigger artist, so get the biggest artist since the Beatles to say that I should be a bigger artist. Ha ha ha," he remembered thinking.

When the album was released, he heard the title track where Swift sang, "You smokеd, then ate seven bars of chocolate/We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist."

Puth said it was a surreal experience for him because it's never good to look back, but he felt that he could've done things "a little differently in the past" but that it was meant to happen in the present.

"I just cried, dude," he added.

In other news about the musician, he just released a new song called "HERO." He credited Swift for inspiring him to release the single.

Taking to his official Instagram account, the singer shared the official cover art of the song. In the caption, he thanked Swift for letting him know musically that he shouldn't keep the track on his hard drive any longer and that he should release it.

In the interview, he gave more context, saying that if the "Maroon" hitmaker had not mentioned him, he would not have had the courage to release the track.

"HERO" is different from what Puth has released in the past as the song is a more stripped-down production and very raw.

"I recorded this guitar with a f****** iPhone. It's the first time that's happened to me where I didn't feel the need to add more," he said.
