Alejandro Sanz Publishes Open Letter to Fan Who Accused Him of Emotional Abuse

Alejandro Sanz Latin Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award

Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz broke his silence this week, confirming he had a relationship with Ivet Playá, the woman who recently accused him of emotional abuse and manipulation, describing their years-long affair as a "nightmare."

In a statement posted to his official social media accounts, Sanz acknowledged the romance and responded to the viral claims that have dominated Spanish and Latin American media over the past several days.

"Ivet, I had such a beautiful memory of the two of us, two adults sharing affection and freedom," Sanz wrote. "It's a shame that this feeling has now been destroyed."

According to the singer, the situation escalated after he declined a business proposal from Playá in May. She had allegedly asked him to invest in her family's ventures, but Sanz said he refused after consulting his financial advisors. He implied that the public accusations were retaliation.

"You asked me to invest in some family businesses of yours. After reviewing it with my advisors, I said no," he wrote. "I'm sorry your reaction is this, but I want you to know I've never participated in such tactics, and never will. I hope you find your path and happiness."

Playá, for her part, went public on June 16 via TikTok and Instagram. In a series of emotional videos, she detailed how the relationship began when she was a teenager and a devoted fan.

"It all started in 2015. I was just a fan, and he followed me on social media. I couldn't believe someone as famous as him was liking my photos and sending me private messages," she said.

She claims the dynamic shifted once she turned 18 and was hired to help coordinate Sanz's official fan clubs across Spain. At age 22, she says she left her home in Barcelona to move to Madrid, where the relationship turned physical.

"I thought I was living a dream," Playá said in one clip. "But it became a nightmare. I feel deceived, used, humiliated — even dirty. I don't even know who could have seen the private things I sent him in total trust."

Alejandro Sanz's response

The artist, now 55, has not addressed the age gap or the timeline in detail, nor has he issued further clarification beyond the statement posted Monday. According to the Spanish singer, the woman contacted him several weeks ago asking him to invest in her family's business ventures. After reviewing the proposal with his team, Sanz declined. In his public statement, he implies that her accusations may be an act of retaliation.

Here is the full translated message shared by Sanz:

"Ivet,
I had a beautiful memory of the two of us — two adults sharing affection, living freely. It's a shame that this feeling has now been shattered.

In May, you asked me to invest in some of your family's businesses. After discussing it with my advisors, I told you no.

I'm sorry this is your response, but I want you to know I have never engaged in this kind of behavior, and I never will.

I truly hope you find your path and your happiness soon."*
