Ariana Grande is giving fans a first emotional glimpse into her next music era, as she teases her upcoming song "Hate That I Made You Love Me."

The pop star shared a short lyric on Instagram on Tuesday, May 26, that quickly caught attention for its raw and honest tone. Even though it is only a few words, fans say it hints at a deeper, more personal direction in her new work.

In her Instagram post, Grande appeared in a black-and-white photo, looking back over her shoulder. According to Billboard, the image fits the soft, minimal style she has been using to introduce her third studio album Petal. In the caption, she simply wrote, "cause i barely tried."

The post added to the growing curiosity around what she has called a more open and unfiltered era. Shortly after posting, Grande reshared the image on her Instagram Story and added a countdown timer for the release of "Hate That I Made You Love Me," which is set to drop on Friday, May 29.

Ariana Grande Teases Moody New Song

The song will be the first official release from Petal, which is scheduled for full release on July 31 and will include 12 tracks. Grande has already described the album as something different from her past work.

In an earlier Instagram video, she said, "It's a little feral ... definitely from a place I've been maybe too shy or polite to tap into before." Her words suggest that this new project will focus more on emotional honesty and less on holding back feelings, Yahoo reported.

Fans also got an early preview of the song earlier in May when Grande shared a short audio clip.

While it did not include any singing or lyrics, it featured soft, eerie, water-droplet-like sounds that hinted at a moody and atmospheric style.

This new release comes just before Grande returns to touring. She is set to launch her "Eternal Sunshine Tour" in June, marking her first major tour in six years.
