It's been a little while since Selena Gomez released new music, but today (Oct. 9), the singer and actress dropped a new song with the help of Ben Kweller. A simplistic acoustic performance music video for the duo's new single "Hold On" from their film Rudderless dropped, and now you can hear a whole new side of the "Come and Get It" singer.

The jam is far more likened to an acoustic indie ballad than Gomez's standard brand of pop music, featuring a round of acoustic guitars, stringed instruments and bombastic piano parts. This influence is likely brought on by singer-songwriter Kweller, who strums the acoustic guitar in the music video while Gomez sings along, dressed in a cozy sweater.

The duo are soon joined by a larger cast of people (including William H. Macy) as they sing the tender new song. "Don't let it get you down, it will bury you very soon / Come into your own and then let it go, don't you know / Hold on and suddenly you'll find your way" Gomez and Kweller sweetly in the folksy tune.

"Hold On" is a new song from the upcoming film Rudderless, which stars Gomez, Macy and Kweller. Jamie Chung, Felicity Huffman, Billy Crudup and Laurence Fishburne also star.

While not inherently a musical, Rudderless heavily incorporates music into its plot as a father grieves the death of his son. According to iMBD, The film's synopsis is: "A grieving father in a downward spiral stumbles across a box of his recently deceased son's demo tapes and lyrics. Shocked by the discovery of this unknown talent, he forms a band in the hope of finding some catharsis."

Rudderless will hit theatres on Oct. 17.
