Perhaps one of the saddest stories of this past week is the news that Diem Brown has lost her battle with cancer. The 32-year-old had starred on seven seasons of MTV's The Challenge and she had used her fame as a platform to educate about every aspect of cancer. She was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer nearly ten years ago and then fought a second round successfully back in 2012. In late August of this year, Brown's final battle began. By October she had learned that her cancer had spread to the lining of her stomach, her liver and her lymph nodes. Perhaps the saddest thing of all was the desperation Brown showed earlier this week in wanting to live.

On Tuesday Brown posted her very last Tweet which read, "I NEED PRAyErs and advice my doctors are seemingly giving up but I won't & can't rollover. Whatever option I have to LIVE I'm grabbing!"

In her final months, Brown was surrounded by an army of friends and family that helped to pull her through the expierence. They also made sure that her non-profit organization, MedGift, continued to thrive and help fund the high cost of battling a serious illness such as cancer. While MTV viewers' are likely very familiar with Brown's consistent presence, the network itself is clearly grieving the loss of one of their own. They issued an official statement on Friday, saying,

"MTV is tremendously sad to hear the news that Diem Brown has lost her long battle with cancer. We send our deepest condolences to her family and friends. Diem was a true fighter and brought passion to everything she touched. We will miss her."

It's ironic that Diem Brown was one of the few long-standing reality television stars that chose to use her notoriety for something extremely valuable and she's one of the few that will ultimately be gone way too soon.
