Nearly everyone was stunned to learn that Robin Williams had committed suicide last August. He never hid the fact that he had demons and spoke honestly about his battles with drug and alcohol abuse. Williams was one of those actors that seemed to embrace the struggle and always found his way through, somehow. At least until August 11 when he was found hanging in his northern California home. A final autopsy report was released yesterday and its findings were a bit shocking — there was not a trace of illegal drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of his death.

It has been widely reported that in the months leading up to his suicide, Williams had become extremely depressed and he had even made a trip to rehab as a preemptive way to keep himself clean and sober. However, he remained unable to pull himself out of the deep depression. After his death Williams' wife had said that her husband had been diagnosed with early Parkinson's Disease and the thought of being unable to think clearly enough to work was crushing to him.

Williams had also felt the financial strain of divorce and alimony in his final years. It had prompted him to take jobs that he might not have otherwise chosen. His return to television in the fall of 2013 was short lived and those close to Williams have said that having his sitcom canceled was a crushing blow for the main who was used to succeeding.

It almost seems a little sadder to learn that Williams was in a clear frame of mind when he took his own life. The only drugs in his system were perscription, in "thereputic" concentrations.
