Katy Perry unveiled her latest single, “Walking On Air,” late last night. The Klas Åhlund-produced (Madonna, Ke$ha) track deviates from the pop-y “Roar” and the trap-infused “Dark Horse.” From what she has revealed through her singles thus far, Perry is trying out a variety of new sounds in her upcoming album, Prism. “Walking on Air” has a deep-house vibe that doesn’t quite sound like Perry at the beginning. But once the first verse begins, Perry’s signature voice rings through.

Although it previously reported that last night’s new track wouldn’t drop until the full album was released, MTV News spoke with Perry about “Walking on Air.” She told them that the robust tune began when she and a friend were strolling through Central Park and happened upon a group roller-skating to deep house music. According to the article, she wanted this new song to sound like CeCe Peniston’s 1991 hit single, “Finally.”

“I looked at her and I said, ‘I have to do a song like that,’” Perry told them. “I really want to bring that authentic 90s deep house song styling back.”

“Walking on Air” is the third song Perry has released from her upcoming album, Prism, out Oct. 22. Listen to the track here, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!
