The manuscripts for two unrecorded Bob Dylan songs "Talking Folklore Center" and "Go Away You Bomb" are going to be auctioned off at auction house Christie's on Dec. 4 in New York City as reported by Rolling Stone. What makes these more interesting to Dylan fans and music enthusiasts is that these are the original hand-written manuscripts that Bob Dylan wrote, including his own notes on the tracks. The "Talking Folklore Center" manuscript is expected to be sold for $40,000-$60,000 according to Christie's, while the manuscript for "Go Away You Bomb" is expected to fetch $30,000-$50,000.
The manuscripts are being sold by Izzy Young, who founded the Folklore Center in New York City's West Village. The center was instrumental to the folk revival in the '60s and saw individuals like Pete Seeger come through its doors, as well as an unknown Dylan who spent a lot of his formable years as an artist writing songs there.
Mr. Young, now 86 and living in Stockholm says that the proceeds form the auction will go towards supporting his current business—another folk center called Folklore Centrum in Stockholm. It was Young who helped Dylan secure his first important gig at New York's Carnegie Chapter Hall on Nov. 4 1961.
The 43-line "Talking Folk Center" was penned at the request of Young, who originally planned to create a series about the center. However, "Talking Folk Center" was the first and only song written in the series according to The New York Times.
"Go Away You Bomb" was originally going to be a part of an anti-nuclear bomb songbook, but it was never published and the track eventually faded from memory and never say the light of day or was performed.
The lyrics were included in the appendix of a biography about Young titled "Conscience Of The Folk Revivial: The Writings Of Israel "Izzy" Young. So if you don't have $50,000 to spend on original Dylan manuscripts, you can buy this book online and still read the poetry that Dylan has to offer.
