This is definitely not the best week of Angelina Jolie's life, that's for sure. While she has been traveling all over the place to successfully promote the new film that she has directed, Unbroken, things that are beyond her control have to be weighing heavily. First, Jolie's name was connected to those leaked Sony emails, with studio execs calling her "spoiled" and "marginally talented," then she was shut out of both SAG and Golden Globe nominations. Now Jolie is going to have to sit out several appearances connected to Unbroken because she has been diagnosed with the chicken pox.
Jolie released a video yesterday explaining why she wont be joining Unbroken cast members for a few official appearances because she wanted to make sure that everyone knew the real reason for her absence. That was probably a smart move on Jolie's part because this has been the kind of week where rumors would certainly have swirled about her being MIA. On Wednesday morning the actress came face-to-face with Sony exec Amy Pascal and she glared icy holes through the woman, whose insults hit the press just a day earlier.
Then there are those missing award nominations for both Maleficent and Unbroken. While Jolie is often thought to have acting chops that are on a totally different plane than what Jennifer Aniston brings to the table, it was actually the latter who has snagged two "Outstanding Lead Actress" nominations for her amazing work in Cake. While there has been Oscar buzz swirling around Aniston since early September no one took it that seriously until this past week — least of all Jolie!
It has been the kind of stressful week that might make Jolie a bit glad to have a reason to hide out for a little while, even if she is scratching, don't you think?
