If anti-pop conservatives and women's rights activists were told in 2000 that Eminem and Marilyn Manson would still be dominating headlines 15 years later, they probably would've left the country at their earliest convenience. But they received no warning, and thus, must continue to live through controversy after controversy. In the past calendar year, both Em and MM (who once recorded a neat rap-metal remix together) have been in trouble for their portrayal of women in their art.

While the buzz over Slim Shady's lyric about raping Iggy Azalea has died down, we're still in the midst of a controversial Manson-related video that features Eli Roth raping Lana Del Rey.

Manson reportedly said working with Del Rey was "a problem." He's been wiping his hands clean of the video for a while, but is just now going back on the comment about Lana.

"I did not have any intention of that footage being involved with any of the other footage it was edited together with," Manson told NME (via Billboard). "Also, I was misquoted in the press about saying that working with Lana was a problem."

Oh?

"What was a problem was trying to get into a situation where she and I could work together, because we didn't have a story yet," he said.

In a separate interview, Manson managed to claim responsibility for the term "grunge."

"I hated rock'n'roll when I started," he told Noisey. "It was on the cusp of grunge and a lot of bands that I used to call 'commonist rock' because everyone wanted to be like the common man with the flannel shirts and Pearl Jam and their fight against Ticketmaster and all this horse s-.

"Nirvana was different. That was one of the bands I covered first as a journalist and I'm just going to go ahead and say I coined the term 'grunge' in a review of 'Bleach'. You're welcome."

This all seems very Al Gore-like. Not the video controversy, but the completely unfounded claim of ownership over an international treasure. Manson 2016? Still a better choice than Mike Huckabee.
