Kanye West famously dropped out of college to pursue his career in music. Now the Chicago native will receive an honorary doctorate from the Art Institute of Chicago.

In a recent interview with CliqueTV, the So Help Me God rapper discussed a wide range of topics touching on racism, fashion and his overall views of society.

Within the interview, he revealed: "I'm actually getting an honorary doctorate on May 5, from the Art Institute of Chicago."

West sharing his theories on how the world needs "more love," "more beauty" and more concern "for the next man," sparked the beginning of the honorary doctorate topic. The conversation shifted to his journey in the fashion world and breaking the walls of being considered "commercial."

As an artist, he noted that his artistry dates back to his childhood.

"I was a gifted artist since age 5, national competitions and went to art school," West said in the interview.

In the pop world, West noted that he benefits from having an artistic background.

He explained: "... also what's fun about playing in the pop field vs. the art field is you get a lot of exposure ... The majority of the pop artists don't have the same responsibility to the sensibility, so it's sort of easy to always slam dunk them."

West laughed as he referenced his recent Brit Awards performance, maintaining, "But I want all the best for all the pop stars."

While fans still eagerly wait for the drop of So Help Me God, West continues to keep the public on their toes with his Adidas Originals Collection and the teasers leading up to the unknown album release date.

According to Billboard, West briefly attended the American Academy of Art and Chicago State University. He left college at age 20.

Whether West will attain his honorary degree before So Help Me God drops, fans will have to wait and see.
