As previously reported, Christina Aguilera is set to appear on the ABC hit series Nashville tonight. The Voice coach will be going country for her new role as Jade St. John, a pop superstar who rolls into town for a two-night engagement at The Bridgestone with an agenda: she wants to record a country album, but her label insists she stay on brand with pop music. Although her character has a desire to sing country music, Aguilera reveals in a new interview that she doesn't plan to make the jump into the genre herself.

"I think my roots will stay where they are," she told People. "But that doesn't mean there won't be more collaborations down the line."

However, she did say that her experience working in country music was very positive.

"There are really no nicer people than in country," she said. "The show couldn't have been more welcoming and great to work with. On my last day of shooting, they even gave me a cake. It was such a great experience for my family."

In celebration of her role, Aguilera will perform a duet at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday. Her partner for the song has yet to be revealed, but she did share some details with People about the upcoming performance.

She told them that she'll be performing two songs, one of which is "Shotgun," which will be featured in solo form on her second Nashville episode, airing April 22.

"I really love the song. It speaks to long-lasting love, the roads it takes, the turns it makes and how it lasts forever. When I perform it, I really think of that older couple who have been through it all and who have stood the test of time with the changes that their relationship goes through."

The singer also recorded the song "The Real Thing" for the show and changed her hair color.

Nashville airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
