It's time for the My Chemical Romance swan song. After weeks of anticipation (and dread) from the former alt-rock band's dedicated MCRmy fanbase, its final song has arrived. Today (Feb. 17) "Fake Your Death" premiered on BBC Radio 1. A YouTube stream of the track, alongside an official trailer for My Chemical Romance's upcoming greatest this album, followed the BBC debut.

A previously unreleased track from My Chemical Romance's planned, unfinished follow-up to Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, "Fake Your Death" is a piano-heavy ballad harkening back to the group's The Black Parade era.

Fittingly for a final track, the lyrics to "Fake Your Death" seem to reflect disappearing from the spotlight, much like My Chemical Romance has. "Some people watch, some people pray / But even lights can fade away / Some people hope, some people pay / But why we have to stay," lead singer Gerard Way sings in the track's opening verse.

The reasons for My Chemical Romance's surprise split in March 2013 haven't surfaced, so it's hard to know whether or not MCR knew this was the end when it recorded "Fake Your Death," but it's hard to believe they couldn't see it coming. It just sounds like a final single and a strong one at that.
