One Direction may have blasted off in to space for its new "Drag Me Down" music video, but it seems like the boy band will soon be moving into fully different directions in the new year. Over the weekend, reports spread like wildfire that 1D will be taking a year-long hiatus after the release of its fifth studio album.

According to E! News, following the departure of Zayn Malik in March, One Direction will be taking a break to pursue solo careers and other ventures just a few months after the release of its Four follow-up. The source seemed to indicate that means there will be no tour in support of the yet to be titled album.

"They are taking a hiatus so they can work on individual projects for a while but they are not splitting up," a source close to the band said. "They will remain together and plan to work together in the future."

Much to the relief of Directioners everywhere, the source emphasized that this does not mean the end of One Direction. A reunion for the group is almost certainly in the cards.

"They are great friends and fully support one another," the source continued. "They are very aware that they are able to work on their own stuff as well as remain together. This is an exciting time for them creatively and as a group."

Despite all of the buzz surrounding a potential One Direction hiatus, a representative for the band would not comment on the potential temporary split with Billboard.

The band's new album, led by single "Drag Me Down," is due before the end of the year.
