For the Foo Fighter's 2014 studio album and complementary, emmy-award winning HBO series, Sonic Highways, the group traveled across the country, recording fresh tracks in a total of eight cities. Friday night during their Austin City Limits Festival set, front man Dave Grohl announced that the Lone Star State's capitol of Austin treated them so well the first time around, they came back on Thursday, Oct. 8, to record a total of five new songs.

Taking on Austin City Limits Festivals' Zilker Park, the former Nirvana drummer teased the crowd with talks of new music, as captured in a fan-shot video. "You know what I did last night? I recorded a f-ing song in your beautiful city of Austin, Texas. And I'm just gonna say it now: We recorded five f-ing new songs in your beautiful city of Austin, Texas. We're gonna give it to you, but not tonight."

The ACL audience may have assumed they'd be a part of the unveiling of five new Foo songs because in unison, fans let out a disgruntled groan after they realized Grohl was teasing them. Rather than premiere the new material, Grohl and company brought out a renowned, Austin-based singer named Ben Kweller. Grohl and Kweller hadn't seen each other in just about 16 years until they ran into each other in the studio, leading Kweller to lend harmonies to one of the latest Foo tracks, UltimateClassicRock notes.

Kweller and the Foo Fighters took on an emotional ballad version of classic track "Big Me," including a lead guitar intro executed by Kweller, Spin reports. The track came to a close as the singer-songwriter joined Grohl atop his personally crafted throne as the song's ending notes faded out.

Just a while after, Grohl introduced guitar afficiando Gary Clark, Jr. to the stage for a rendition of "What Did I Do? / God as My Witness," the Sonic Highways track which boasts Clark's talents.
