Die Hard fans can expect another installment of the franchise to hit the big screen soon for its sixth installment of the franchise. Die Hard Year One is planned as a prequel with a different actor set to star as a younger John McClane, Bruce Willis' character.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the franchise, which began in 1988 with its first film; Die Hard, is in the process of working on the sixth installment. The film, which is based around NYPD officer John McClane, is headed back to the big screen but this time, with a different approach. According to the site, the story will display a young John McClane, in a prequel setting, to capture "how McClane became the rough and tumble cop that audiences know."

Set to bring the story to life are director Len Wiseman and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Wiseman has worked on past films like Live Free or Die Hard and Total Recall with actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, while di Bonaventura is best known for his work on the film, Transformers.

According to Deadline, the film is still in its early stages and as of now, is being referred to as Die Hard Year One. Fox, along with the producer and director, are looking for the perfect screenwriter to capture the grittiness and edginess of McClane before joining the NYPD, and show how he developed over the years.

From the beginning, the Die Hard action movie franchise has had tremendous box office success totaling over $1.4 billion according to The Hollywood Reporter. No word as of yet on who may be cast to play the young McClane or, if Willis is set to be a part of the project.

Who would you like to see cast in the role of young John McClane?  Or is this entire idea bringing back memories of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?
