YG has had an enormous impact on the re-evaluation of West Coast hip-hop in recent years. After releasing the critically lauded My Krazy Life, the Los Angeles artist has catapulted to the top of the charts and lists of best current rappers. The highly anticipated follow up to this album, Still Krazy will be released in the coming months, and YG has participated in a number of promotional appearances for his new work. In a new interview, YG expounds on the difficulties of living in Los Angeles after achieving massive fame.

In a cover story for The Fader, YG discusses his experiences in LA in the past year. In June, YG was shot in a studio in LA, after which he remained very quiet on social media. Further, he refused to cooperate with the police, leaving the circumstances behind the shooting a mystery. The rapper has increased his security since the incident, according to AllHipHop.

Despite his efforts toward putting Los Angeles back on the map, YG says many at home are not happy with his success.

The rapper explained, "Los Angeles County is sick right now. It's bad. Everybody mad out here right now. All the young motherf*ckers, they getting money, they motivated," YG stated. "The music sh*t start popping again out here. We got strip clubs now. It's a lot of motherf*ckers doing music now. It's a lot of females becoming models and sh*t now. We got something to do with that. But at the same time, it's a lot of motherf*ckers that's mad."

Speaking of YG's evolution as an artist in the Fader piece, Def Jam CEO Steve Bartels said, "YG went through an incredible maturation process as an artist in the years between 'Toot It' and 'My Hitta.' The YG that emerged from that process was a fully formed album artist, with perspective and strong music. I can already tell that the new music will continue the pantheon of what has begun."
