When The Angry Birds Movie catapults into theatres next May, the app-based film will have at least one familiar voice on its soundtrack: Blake Shelton. On Tuesday (Dec. 29), the "Gonna" singer announced that he's been tapped not just to supply a new song for The Angry Birds Movie, but he's also acting in the animated film.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Shelton will be playing Earl, one of the many green pigs in the film. Shelton's Earl will, of course, be a country fried swine. While The Voice coach himself already has a deep twang in his voice, he had to amplify his Southern roots for The Angry Birds Movie. "They kept saying, 'More country,'" Shelton revealed. "I felt like I was doing a voiceover for Dukes of Hazzard."

Shelton, who will be providing his voice alongside more established actors such as Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph and SNL's Kate McKinnon, will also be providing a little new music for the feature film. Shelton is contributing a yet-to-be named song for the Angry Birds Movie soundtrack. And, while the single itself may not have a name, we do know one thing: it's about the game itself, something Shelton struggled to write about despite spending unending hours on the popular app.

"I can write things about myself and my life. But I don't have a whole lot of experience being shot out of a slingshot at pigs," he joked.

Shelton's voice can be heard in The Angry Birds Movie, which is due to hit movie theatres on May 20, 2016.
