Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín Guzmán, aka "El Chapo," has been one of the more daring and high-profile criminals in recent history. After the arrest of his rival, Osiel Cardenas of the Gulf cartel, Chapo became the most powerful drug trafficker in the world. In February of 2014, Chapo, the head of the Sinaloa Cartel, was arrested by Mexican authorities. However, in a remarkable turn of events, the drug lord escaped prison and baffled the government and public.

On Jan. 8, Chapo was captured by Mexican Marines, and may face extradition to the United States.  Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto announced the news on Twitter: (translated into English) "Mission accomplished: we have him. I want to inform the Mexican people that Joaquín Guzmán Loera has been arrested."

Rappers The Game and 2 Chainz, both of whom have a song about the notorious drug kingpin, took to Instagram to share their thoughts on his capture.

"That moment when you've been caught but you already got your next escape plan figured out. #ElChapo," the Game wrote for the caption of an image of Guzmán after his capture.

2 Chainz also posted an image of El Chapo on his Instagram with the caption of a teardrop emoticon and the word "papa."

El Chapo represented success in a field many artists rap about in an exaggerated, theatrical manner.

According to Mexican Attorney General Arely Gomez "Since Guzman Loera has been recaptured, the beginning of the extradition proceedings should begin." El Chapo has trafficked drugs across the United States border for years, and will be held in a maximum security prison with very little chance of escape if extradited.
