Nas recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of his classic Illmatic album and to commemorate his debut, he also released a documentary entitled Time Is Illmatic.

XXL reports that the documentary is now going global.

The film made its big premier at the Tribeca Film Festival back in April and after a successful run, Tribeca Film acquired the documentary for national distribution.

It was also reported that Time Is Illmatic's theatrical and VOD release will come this October. The release will also include special performances from Nas in select cities.

As far as international distribution, a new deal was signed with Submarine Entertainment Tuesday.

The film is currently being shown at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Time Is Illmatic can now be seen in Japan, Australia and across Europe.

As previously reported, the documentary serves as a breakdown of Nas' 1994 album.

"When I made Illmatic, I was trying to make the perfect album," Nas says in the new trailer for the documentary. "It comes from the days of Wild Style. I was trying to make you experience my life. I wanted you to look at hip-hop differently. I wanted you to feel that hip-hop was changing and becoming something more real."

The documentary gives in depth insight into Nas' life and the source of his lyrical genius.

"I gave you what the streets felt like, what it tasted like, sounded like, smelled like, all on that album, and I tried to capture it like no one else could," Nas explains in the trailer.

Stay tuned for more details on the theatrical and VOD release of Time Is Illmatic.
