The Red Hot Chili Peppers are amongst those who support Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders. The band will perform at a Bernie Sanders Benefit concert at The Theatre at the trendy Ace Hotel in Los Angeles on Feb. 5, with other musical acts and special guests to be announced soon.

“So excited to be playing this concert for Bernie Sanders next week,” Flea wrote on Instagram to announce the show. “Feels great to support someone I believe in. The RHCP offered to give him money to pay for the theater that night but he wouldn’t accept, he only accepts small donations from individuals.”

Flea further wrote, “Every other politician greedily grabs every cent they can get from any scumbag lobbyist. This is a man with integrity. If you can please buy the expensive seats to help out the campaign. Thank you so much. Bernie Sanders for president,” with other details reported by Billboard.

Not doing things strictly for monetary gain and having integrity seems to be a theme surrounding the band, as their ex-member John Frusciante released a bevy of free music on his Soundcloud and Bandcamp for free late last year. All of the music released was streaming free of charge in a stand against the rampant commercialization of music. Frusciante also followed up on an interview with Consequence of Sound and wrote an open letter explaining his decision to give away music for free.

Frusciante left the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2009 and has gone on to release 2 solo albums since leaving the group, 2014’s Enclosure and 2015’s Trickfinger. But Frusciante has released many more, 13 albums total, in his solo career apart from the band.
